Defiant mermaid Ariel (Grammy-nominee Halle Bailey) longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea. Against the wishes of her father, King Triton (Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men) Ariel visits the surface, where the dashing Prince Eric catches her eye. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a bargain with the sea witch, Ursula (Academy Award-nominee Melissa McCarthy, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life — and her father's crown — in jeopardy.
